1. Self-Protection: Unless you are using your chosen self-defense tools for target practice, training or general recreation, they should be considered a defensive tool only. It is typically a criminal act to use any of the tools we discuss to commit unwarranted agression.
2. Operation: Read the manual that came with your chosen self-defense tool - cover to cover. Seriously - you should read it. Most manufacturers do a great job of explaining how to operate their products in their manual. To get the most out of your investment and to maximize safe operation, please read all manuals.
3. Training and Knowledge: Even beefore purchasing and using any defensive tool, individuals should seek proper training and fully understand their chosen device. This ensures proper, responsible, and effective use when needed. We offer both online and in-person training anywhere in New Mexico. If you are located outside New Mexico and need training we cannot provide, we may be able to match you with additional resources.
3. Understanding Appropriate Use: It's important to understand appropriate use and defensive concepts. Being able to explain and justify your defensive decisions helps demonstrate responsible ownership.
4. Laws: While the tools we discuss are legal (in some form or fashion) in all 50 states, your city/county/state laws may or may not place certain limitations on the use of these tools. Be sure you are aware of and follow all laws, rules and regulations.
5. Staying Current: Regulations and guidelines can change over time, so staying informed through official sources is essential. Regular consultation with qualified professionals can help ensure continued compliance with current standards.
6. Know your limitations: Do not engage in any situation where you believe you are unable to prevail.
7. Last Resort: Try to de-escalate when you can and before using the tools we discuss on this site. If you can't get to safety and you are in danger, then use your training and your tools to defend.
